Little Monkeys are here to help alleviate the effects of poverty on local children and their families.
All the families we support live in Heywood. We are a community based charity supporting our local community. Our resources are
limited and we cannot stretch to areas outside Heywood.
Some families may need our support for many years, being unable to lift themselves out of the poverty trap. Others, however, may require our help only once until they can get back on their feet and become self-sufficient once again. These may include a family fleeing domestic violence for example, or have suffered a house fire and so just need a helping hand at that particular time.
Because of our close working relationships with other services we can guide families to the relevant services for the families’ progression out of their situation and into self-sufficiency, which benefits both the families and the community.
Help is offered by a referral system whereby a family unable to provide basic items for their children can access our service once they have been referred by a support worker. This is usually a Health Visitor, Housing Officer, Social Worker or similar.
The support we offer is often as part of an overall package with other statutory and voluntary services involved in helping a family during a particularly stressful time in their lives. For instance another agency may be providing a family with new beds for the children, whilst Little Monkeys can then provide bedding for the beds. These partnerships enable the families’ needs to be met quickly and without duplication, so maximising the impact of all organisations involved.
Little Monkeys is a vital lifeline to many vulnerable families, providing practical help with items they need to lead a normal life. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we are able to continue this work in Heywood.
